Buffett performs free show in Atlantic City

From the PressOfAtlanticCity.com: “Buffett concert draws 50,000 to Atlantic City beach

Perfect weather, a new attraction, a big name and a free show combined to give Atlantic City its second biggest beach concert ever Saturday, including performances by Jimmy Buffett and Wilson Phillips.

Tom Foley, chief of emergency services and director of emergency management services for Atlantic City, estimated that more than 30,000 people were on the LandShark Beach in front of Resorts Casino Hotel. They were joined by another 20,000 people on the Boardwalk and at the LandShark Bar in the new $35 million, Buffett-backed, Margaritaville complex, which brought the singer-songwriter to the resort.

With more than 50,000 attendees, the Buffett and Wilson Phillips concert trails only the 250,000 people who attended a Beach Boys concert in 1983 as the largest beach concert in the city’s history.

Buffett came out at 4:11 p.m. Saturday, after McAnally started doing a song he wrote that was a hit for Kenny Chesney called “Back Where I Come From.”

Buffett was appropriately attired for the sunny day in the 80s, with a white T-shirt and rainbow-colored striped shorts.

“Hello, shore people. Good afternoon. Built it, and he will come. Look at this view,” Buffett said about the beach and ocean to his right from the stage. “The best thing we did was build this place in Atlantic City… This is pretty cool. I’m glad it worked out this way.”

Buffett to perform in Atlantic City on Saturday

From the PressOfAtlanticCity.com: “Jimmy Buffett to play at Resorts’ free beach concert Saturday

Singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett will christen his Margaritaville complex this Saturday at Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City after all.

Buffett will be the special guest during the previously announced free and open-to-the-public beach concert that features 1990s hitmakers Wilson Phillips, Andy Grammer and Mac McAnally at Resorts. McAnally is signed to Buffett’s Mailboat record label and has long been a partner of Buffett’s as a songwriter, musician and producer. The concert starts at 1 p.m.

The concert was announced last month, but Buffett’s appearance was not confirmed by Resorts until Wednesday. As of Wednesday night, it could not be determined when Buffett would take the stage.

Buffett’s appearance means there will be a greater percentage of Parrotheads, the nickname given to Buffett’s fans, in the beach concert crowd.

From ResortsAC.com: Buffett will make a special appearance sometime during McAnally’s set, which begins at 4 p.m.

Willie Nelson & Jimmy Buffett perform in Montauk

From “Willie Nelson Takes Over The Surf Lodge In Montauk For A Free Concert, Jimmy Buffett Joins In!

Mama don’t let your babies grow up to be surfers… Willie Nelson, The Original Outlaw took his biodiesel tour bus all the way out to Montauk and delivered a FREE show to those lucky enough to score entrance inside of The Surf Lodge last night. It was a “once in a lifetime” experience as a crowd of young and old Montauk locals and hipsters gathered around the Surf Lodge’s deck, sand pit, and even in boats to watch the 80 year old singer belt out songs like “Good hear-ted woman,” and “Mama don’t let your babies grow up to be cowboys.” Then, just when we thought it couldn’t get any better than Willie at sunset, local resident Jimmy Buffett took the stage – barefoot – to end out the show with Nelson, and even through in a “Happy Birthday” song for Willie to honor his recent 80th birthday milestone.

From 27east.com: “Willie Nelson Concert In Montauk Draws Listeners By Land And Sea, Few Problems

Legendary country singer Willie Nelson drew an appreciative crowd by land and sea—well, pond—to the Surf Lodge in Montauk Sunday evening for a concert in which Jimmy Buffett joined him for a couple of songs.

Mr. Nelson, who recently celebrated a birthday, played straight through, noting at one point that he was “studying being 80” and that it was looking pretty great.

The concert was free, with 100 reserved admission tickets going for $100 and raising money for the Montauk Playhouse Foundation, whose community center, a work in progress as well as already in use, is right down the road. Those who hadn’t snagged a guaranteed spot at the Surf Lodge used their own ingenuity, plying Fort Pond on paddleboards and in kayaks and sailboats and forming a flotilla right next to the restaurant. Mr. Nelson turned and acknowledged them at least once, inspiring toots and the raising of paddles in salute from the pond.
